Sustainability Objectives

The Grove Residences was conceived with a strong focus on energy efficiency and long-term environmental performance. A key component of the development’s sustainability strategy was the implementation of an all-electric domestic hot water system, eliminating the need for fossil fuel-based heating sources.

Automatic Heating’s CO₂ heat pump technology was selected to help the project achieve its energy goals, offering high efficiency even in cooler ambient conditions while aligning with modern decarbonisation strategies.

Automatic Heating’s Contribution

Automatic Heating was engaged to provide a complete domestic hot water solution including detailed engineering design, prefabricated delivery, and system commissioning. The system features three Revere CO₂ 80Y heat pumps installed on the rooftop, supplying hot water to six 3000L Thermex storage tanks located in the basement plant room. A prefabricated Revere skid system with integrated controls and high-efficiency Grundfos pumps manages the hydraulic flow through three heat exchangers, providing consistent 65°C delivery temperatures across the building.

The heat pumps are sequenced based on return water temperature, with an intelligent control strategy that rotates unit operation for system longevity. Secondary hot water return pumps are configured for duty/standby operation, ensuring reliability and efficient thermal distribution across the complex. The system also incorporates Duraflex expansion tanks and remote monitoring capability via a modem-enabled PLC, supporting ongoing optimisation and performance tracking.

Outcome and Community Impact

The solution delivered by Automatic Heating ensures a reliable and energy-efficient domestic hot water supply for over 250 residences, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the development’s low-impact living mandate. The all-electric system is future-proofed for grid decarbonisation and designed for minimal maintenance through intelligent controls and modular components. As a result, The Grove Residences offers its residents both comfort and confidence in the sustainability of their home infrastructure.
